Quelxtro

By Jeremiah Pena | Published January 5th, 2010

I decided to do something a bit different for my first track of 2010. Instead of writing an orchestral song, I went with an entirely electronic song, in this case, Trance (although other genres may have slipped in). In keeping with the tradition of naming my trance songs with something similar to “xtro or zo” in the name. I couldn’t come up with a good word to modify, so I randomly added Quel to the beginning of xtro, and came up with Quelxtro. Take a listen:

Quelxtro

Quelxtro was my first attempt at using entirely self-created modulation. Instead of relying on the instrument plugin to do modulation of panning, filters, etc, I simply used track plugins, and did it all myself. Even though it takes more time, the result sounds better, and more professional.

Most of the instruments were either free plugins, or came with Cubase Studio 5. For the main leads and bass, I used Superwave P8 (Great free synth for trance-style leads). The pads were mainly Synth1, with some free presets I downloaded. The main percussion (kick, hi hat, snare, cymbal), was from drum-kits for HalionOne. And the electronic sweeps and hits were included with Cubase Studio 5.

However, some percussion (big sweeping drum hits, and glitch-like effect), was from Stormdrum 2.

Reinstalling Windows and Rebooting Dreamscape

By Jeremiah Pena | Published January 3rd, 2010

Lately I’ve been having a lot of computer issues. So my dad and I set out to fix it, and completely messed it up even more. Just say that my user folder went invisible, so we duplicated it on accident, and mass chaos ensued.

So we simply decided to format the drive and reinstall Windows Vista. I already had all my files backed up so it wouldn’t be that bad.

And so we did so, and now I’m very happy we did it! Windows seems to fast, clean, and awesome now. Now I’m just going through the process of installing all necessary software (with an emphasis on necessary); mostly music creation stuff. My next New Year’s Resolution is to not install anything I won’t use a lot or don’t need. I’m going to try to keep the computer as fast and clean as possible. Let’s just hope that I can manage doing that.

Well, the secret project previously known as Dreamscape has now sort of failed, so I’ve decided to take it into my own hands. It started out as a storyline for a book, and became a private role play via email. However, it died out pretty fast. But I feel that the storyline is the best I’ve ever come up with. So I’m going to attempt to write a book out of it. So my 3rd New Year’s Resolution is to actually finish it. (Everyone bug me to work on it, just not too much. If you bug me too much, I’ll get annoyed and give up.)

So here’s the basic storyline in a confusing description:

Imagine that there are 2 realities, like 2 seperate universes. We (humans) live in both realities. I will call them Reality 1 and Reality 2.

When we are awake, we are in Reality 1, but when we sleep, our conscience goes to Reality 2 while we are dreaming.

Our dreams are Reality 2.

Hundreds of thousands of years ago, the two realities were switched. When we were awake, we were in Reality 2, and when we were asleep, we were in Reality 1. But something happened.

A species of creatures came and started hunting humans in Reality 2. They were killing more and more people, and the human race was dying off.

But a group of people got together, and figured out a way to use Quantum energy to switch the two realities, and to distort Reality 2.

So after that, Reality 1 was our main Reality 2, and because of the Distortion of Reality 2, our dreams are extremely random, and the creatures can no longer hunt us.

The book starts when the Quantum energy distorting Reality 2 is slowly starting to fail. It will slowly get worse until it finally breaks completely, and Reality 2 is no longer distorted. When that happens, the creatures can hunt us again and kill off the human race.

So, yeah. I hope that actually made sense…

Use the magical comment form to bug me about doing it.

1 Year Anniversary

By Jeremiah Pena | Published January 1st, 2010

Today, January 1st, 2010, marks the 1 year anniversary of JeremiahPena.com. I’m amazed how the site has grown over this past year, especially the forum, with a great community there (and an incredible 13,979 posts). The strange thing is that I have no idea what to write here besides that, so this is probably going to be very short.

Well, I hope the next year is going to be a good one. And I will attempt to stick to my New Year’s resolution of posting a lot more. At least twice a week. So, goodbye, till later.
