The title says it all. I just got Cubase Studio 5 last night, and already have made 2 of my best songs with it. EWQLSO and Stormdrum 2 work perfectly in it, and it sounds amazing! I love the interface too, like how easy it is to record, and all of the really complex stuff is there but not in your face.

The moment I got it, I did a video unboxing (which will be online soon), and then installed it. The install took about 30 minutes for everything, and once it was done I fired it up and started figuring out how to use it. I figured out the program, believe it or not, in about 1 hour, and composed an entire song in that time too. It’s a quite good song too (not as good as my newest), and I’m amazed I managed to put it together without having ever used Cubase Studio before.

Here’s the song: Sudden Attack

This morning, I immediately starting doing some stuff, came up with a few themes, did some percussion stuff, and then made another song, that I think is a lot cooler. My dad said it sounded like it fits to a Wild West canyon chase scene, so I named it Canyon Chase:

Canyon Chase

So pretty soon I’ll have the unboxing video up, and then I’ll make a review of Cubase Studio 5. From what I’ve seen so far, I think it’s going to be a solid 13/14.

They’re coming! They’ll get here (my house) sometime in the next two weeks! They may come at different times, but I assure you, they will be awesome!

That’s right. “They” aren’t some evil creatures or ganorazoonaflackadops. “They” happen to be 3 amazing music production tools that I just bought! And to be more specific, “They” are Cubase Studio 5, EWQLSO Silver, and EWQL Stormdrum 2! Let me go through them one by one.

Cubase Studio 5:

Cubase Studio 5 is a smaller version of one of the best music making software packages there is! Cubase is what lots of proffesionals use for making music, and I’m getting the “Home Studio” version of it. Cubase Studio will let me compose pretty much any sort of music I want to, with unlimited Audio and MIDI tracks allowed, video support (for movie scoring), slots for 32 VST plugins, and tons of other stuff!

EWQLSO Silver (East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Silver):

This is the smallest version of one of the best orchestra virtual instruments there are. It is a VST plugin (that works on Cubase) full of orchestra sounds, from strings to brass to woodwinds and percussion, it has what I need for orchestra music making! It’s missing a lot of articulations that are available in the gold version, but after looking through the list of included articulations, it has what I need at the moment.

EWQL Stormdrum 2 (East West Quantum Leap Stormdrum 2):

This is just the greatest percussion library ever to go in the hard drives of computers! It has tons of amazing percussion, whether it be huge taiko drums, gongs from china, or drum sets, it has it all. It’s perfect for huge action oriented bombastic crazy stuff! (And quiter boring stuff, but bombastic is cooler!)

I’ll be doing unboxings of all of these when they come, and also will have reviews up on them after a couple of weeks of having them. So stay tuned for the unboxings and reviews, and of course, some awesome music!

Two weirdos get into a fight, leading to computer playing, snakes, and death by pillow, starring Ryan M. and Mason C. If you like wackiness, this is the video for you.

The video was taken using a Kodak EasyShare Camera, Video Editing with Sony Vegas, Music done with Finale PrintMusic 2008 and Ableton Live 7.

My friends and I filmed this in just 30 minutes at 9:30P.M. The editing was done the following day in 1 hour. Music was composed in 1 hour and mixed in in 10 minutes, for a total of 2:40 of video production for the final release.

In the words of one Leo Laporte, the way to get a following is to produce great content! Now, I’ve been producing an okay amount of okay content for the past year, but I haven’t really dug myself in and been creating amazing stuff and sharing it with the world! My new goal is to produce great content, and to post at least 4 times a week.

One problem I’ve had is the scattering of my content all over the place. I have my videos on Youtube, my music on over 5 different sites, tons of blogs. In general, people will find my stuff in one place and never know about the other place. This is not what I want! I want all my traffic and following going on here, on my own site. So my next goal is to try to merge all my stuff into this site and have a singular place where people can find everything I do.

That means that from now on, I’m going to try to make this place more of a multimedia blog than just text. I’m going to include lots of pictures, video, audio, and of course, I’ll be putting it all back into a podcast feed for you to subscribe to! That’s right! I’ll be bringing back the Total Awesomeness Podcast! However, I’m renaming it the TriJourney Podcast to fit with my new studio, TriJourney Studios.

Another thing I’m doing is to merge FreakStudio3000 with TriJourney Studios, and have it be a segment of TriJourney Studios. That also means that the FreakStudio3000 website will be leaving to merge with this site. To get all your latest FreakStudio3000 videos, you can simply visit here.

And lastly, please tell everyone you know about this site, because I like to have people visit it! Please do not just go to the forum and ignore the rest of the site either. And please, please, please comment! I love comments. They make me super happy!

So, even though this post was all boring text with no audio, video, pictures, podcasts, or anything else, I promise that all will be coming, and you’ll see some changes here in the next few weeks!

Lmms

Lately I’ve been using a cool piece of open source software called Lmms. It stands for Linux Multi Media Studio, and runs on Linux and Windows. It’s a music creating program that (of course) you make music with! It’s really good for techno, trance, and other electronic music types. And the best part is, it’s free!

Here’s two songs I’ve composed using it (The first video didn’t render right and doesn’t show the song in lmms, but the second one does):

To get Lmms, go to the website: http://lmms.sourceforge.net/
